Paint your wagon

I know this isn't the best photo in the world but I promised to post a pic of me in my new wagon. To be honest, it's a horrible design. The day this shot was taken, the front wheel popped off. Luckily, I wasn't in the wagon at the time. I wouldn't recommend this product 'Little Tikes Ride & Relax Wagon' for the simple fact that the wheel mechanism is secured by a crappy plastic stopper with a thin metal 'claw' type washer. Dad said this thing was worse then putting together an Ikea product, whatever that means. But regardless, we found an old, smaller Little Tikes wagon in the trash so we're going to strip it for parts and 'MacGyver' the wheel so it's functional.

Warmth of the Sun

Hey folks,

Well the end of July is here and I've been pretty busy enjoying the good weather. Dad had some time off recently so we all had a chance to do some major relaxing. As part of our quality time, we all went to Toronto Island and spent the day hanging out on the beach, taking in the sites and soaking up the UV.

Here I am giving my now trademark 'kiss kiss' face to the camera



I also spent some time hanging out with the lifeguards and they let me check out their rescue surf board called a Dolphin...look out surf sisters!



A fab day was had by all and I even dipped my feet in the cool water. Luckily the e-coli count was low that day so I still have all my toes ;)

Awenda

Hello

This past weekend, the folks and I along with my friend Olivia and her folks Jorge and Tanya went camping at Awenda, just outside of Milton on Georgian Bay.

It was a really nice spot with ample room for our gear. The weather held up for the most part ( just rain on Sunday) and we got a chance to go to the beach ( no pics sorry ) and I had my first sleep in a tent which was really no trouble...



What I enjoyed most of all was the freedom of being outside, the amount of trees you could hug and the big rocks I could climb...



It was also really nice to just kick back, hang out at camp and eat ( you guessed it ) peas!



Of course it was also very fun to spend some time with Olivia and her folks. I really hope we can all do it again sometime, perhaps with some of our other friends from pre-natal class.

At the table

Hey everybody,

Well it's been another busy couple of weeks here at Che Frankelsell. We are more fully moved in but are still dragging our feet on the final little details. I suppose it has something to do with me and the fact that I keep Mom and Dad pretty busy during their waking hours. I've heard them both mention that nothing can truly get done when I'm awake.

One of the latest developments as I had mentioned before was my new found interest in sitting up at the table.



Dad keeps saying that I need to slow down and not be so quick to wish I could do 'adult' type things. Oh well, I say. Also, we have recently purchased a wagon for me and hope to have it set up today. We'll obviously take some photo's of that.

Otherwise, we're just moving along, adjusting to the new routine and trying to stay cool in the humid and sticky July weather. Next weekend Dad has vacation time coming to him and we're going camping with my friend from pre-natal, Olivia and her folks. Stay tuned for a full report on that trip!

No news from Nana but we assume she's doing well.

Updates from Nana (of the North)

This dispatch arrived on the weekend:

I am at the Parks Canada transient unit in Iqaluit (a two story two bedroom-fully furnished and modern equipped apartment with everything you would ever want), turbulent flight coming up this morning, but we arrived 20 mins early due to ascending to a very high altitude. Go figure!

Parks Canada worker, Stephen picked me up at the big yellow airport. The sun is beamingly bright! no mosquito today--there is a bit of wind, enough that there are no bugs. Two day lay over--training sessions tomorrow all day, and then Canada Day celebrations. Wednesday I am finally "off the grid" as I head up to the Polar Shelf project barracks at Resolute Bay. If the weather is good, I'm in to Tanquary on Thursday.



This dispatch arrived today:

I am in my army wind pants and khaki T-shirt with my hiking boots on, ready to step off into the high arctic,leaving for Resolute Bay at 13:55. It has been good to spend three days adjusting to the increased light and gaining that sense of separation necessary to leave one world behind and absorb into the task that lies ahead. I'm fully off the grid today, leaving Iqaluit on a 737 passenger/cargo flight and will overnight in Resolute Bay at the Polar Shelf Research barracks. I will arrive after 18:00, eat at the mess there (of which I hear the meals are deluxe) sleep and try to take in a huge breakfast, fluids and then take off in the Twin Otter to Tanquary around 8am. There are no toilets on a Twin Otter, so I have been warned to pace my morning intake and output of fluids accordingly. The flight to Tanquary is 5 hours. Resolute is three miles from the barracks, and I can walk in if
I find someone to go with, otherwise it is not safe to walk alone--bear or accident. I'm heading into the land of partnered up travel now. I may end up having to sit and read for the evening...my history of Ellesmere Island book is in need of my attention.



The Park staff are excited about my arrival on Thursday. I have had a chance to find an aerial photograph of the base camp from 1969--my ideas on creating a military theme is spot on, and I already have started to develop a working plan and will hit the deck running. I also have my Parks Canada uniform and I am trained to receive visitors to the Park--it is part of my job expectations, we have two parties coming in within a few days after my arrival.

I will think of you and look forward to my safe return home...

Welcome to Summer

Hello friends,

I'm so very apologetic dear bloggers for not posting sooner. As many of you know, the family and I have been busy settling into our new digs, abode, flat, house. We are nearly complete setting the place up and are open to welcome friends and family to celebrate and 'warm' the house with us. It's taken a bit longer then we expected but it's been well worth it. The simple fact that we are not use to having so much space has been a good thing and we are in need of various bits of furniture etc. Anyone have extra bookcases to spare?

In other news, I'm pleased to announce that Dad recently got a promotion at work and will be moving up the ladder from Employment 'Resource' Counsellor to Career Counsellor with the Job Connect program at St. Stephen's. Way to go Papa!
This also means that he'll be working 9-5 and helping out at home more. Aside from the modest pay rise, he won't have to commute very far and thus will have more time to spend with ME and Mama!

NANA Emily has left for the month on a wild adventure to the high Arctic. I'll keep you posted as to her whereabouts and sharewith you a series of her e-mail dispatches. We here at JDB wish her safe travels and the best of health.



In terms of updates, everything is coming up TEETH. I must be into my third week of 'teething' woes now. Also, I'm still walking strong and falling down less. It only takes a good spill or two to make one more careful eh? My 'talking' is also progressing very nicely and it appears that my jonah babble is more coherent and I tend to repeat phrases of my gobbligook. I know it's percieved as rude to some but I also like to point at things and people while I talk.

It probably comes as know surprise but I absolutely love the outdoors! Any mention of the words BIKE, OUTSIDE, or SHOES sends me in a mad rush for the back door, shoes in hand to go out and play. I'm also losing a lot of my baby fat and getting taller. Many predict I'll be as tall as Dad and maybe even as tall as Uncle Lee. Finally, I need to mention that I enjoy sitting at the adult table. When Mom and Dad are eating dinner, I ask to take a seat and do so, without the aide of a 'booster' seat.
