My First Haircut

It had to happen. Even the daycare lady was making comments. Certain photos do my hair justice and everyone agrees that I have nice golden curly locks but eventually everyone must face the music and...

Sit in big yellow racing car?...Wow getting a haircut is really cool.

Okay lady you can hurry up now. Mom, why is she cutting so much off?

Dad stop taking pictures, your like the papa-paparazzi!

Huh. This 'Barney Live' video isn't half bad.

To be Continued.

Top Gear

Hi ya folks,

It's me Jonah finally posting after a busy couple of weeks of sniffles and bugs, hunger striking and some nasty teething. It may all sound a bit dramatic but it's pretty normal stuff for me. Like the Walrus once said, growing up is no easy tusk.

As of late, I've got back into reading and I'm really into cars and trucks. I'm going to a local drop-in and a place called the Small World Cafe to keep me young and fit. My new daycare isn't keeping me as active as I'd like.

I'm really looking forward to the holidays. We're getting a big tree this weekend to decorate with lights and ornaments. I can't wait to open all my presents and see all my family together for food and music. I'm also going to learn how to do oragami.

I'm getting into painting too and will be premiering my first piece as my new blog header soon.

I also wanted to show you my new knit sleeveless sweater hoody made lovingly by my mom pictured above. It's getting really cold outside my home in the city so Mom and Dad purchased me some new winter gear. You'll notice it's a bit big on me but the truth is, I don't fit into clothing for a lad my age. I'm a 22M stuck in a growing body a 3yr old.

P.S. I don't like wearing my gloves ;)

NO, mine !

Hello lovelies,

Well I'll start off by apologizing for not posting on a more regular basis, not that anyone seems to mind. Things have been busy as usual and just when I thought things couldn't be busier, Toronto just had it's first snowfall. This powdery white stuff should slow down things a bit and also means that I get to put on all my winter gear and play outside!

I've also started a new daycare and have the pleasure of sharing it with my friend Nigel, son of my Uncle Marty and Aunt Bee. Dad and Uncle Marty have been good friends since highschool and never thought they would see the day when their son's were in the same daycare, let alone neighbourhood. I also get to see Nigel's big sister, the lovely Sarita on a regular basis. Our two families couldn't be more happy about the arrangement.

Before the snow came, our family made a trip to High Park to take in the last of the fall colours. Below are some pics of myself and mom playing on the equipment.

In terms of more formal developments I've been told that I'm in the midst of a significant growth spurt. Counters and tables are closer then they appear and much of my clothing is getting tight or ill fitting. I'm also in an incredibly frustrating period with my speech and expressions of need and wants. I've been having more tantrums lately, simply because I'm finding it very difficult to communicate. Bottom line-the words just aren't there yet. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I talk up a storm but it is still baby gibberish. The folks have been great about it and patient too, in no rush to hear me say, " Can I have the keys to the car?"

I have however picked up an interesting expression that I've been putting to good use. Some of you may recognize it, " NO, mine!"

The other day when Dad came to pick me up at Daycare, one of the other kids named William approached my Dad to check out his flashing bike light. I quickly ran over and indicated,"No, Mine!" so that William understood who's Daddy he belonged to.

Ahhhh, the lexicon of love!

Take Care everyone. Pics of the first snowfall to follow.

Halloween and other stuff

Hi everyone,

I am sad to report that we didn't end up going trick or treating this year. By the time Jonah got home from Kiki's that night ( Where he dressed up for an afternoon party with the kids) none of us had the energy to go out. However, since it was so nice and warm that night, we tried to dress Jonah up to take some pictures but he refused! Apparently Kiki, his daycare worker took pictures of the kids earlier on in the day but we'll have to wait on those ones.

So instead of him in his monkey suit ( courtesy of R&R) here is a totally goofy shot of Jonah wearing my chucks in his pajamas. I love how his hair looks and it just all goes with the facial expression he's making, I mean the super 'fro is just classic. What a little dude!

And speaking of hair, I'd been growing my facial hair for weeks in prep for my Halloween costume as a Nordic Viking. I've shaved since but I think I may go for it and grow a big old beard for Winter time.

In other news, our brave Nana has gone back up to the arctic again to complete her research. On last report, she emailed us that she is safe and sound in Iqualuit, despite the boredom and is heading to Pangnirtung very soon. We'll keep you updated as her adventure unfolds.

Crossing our fingers that Jonah will pose in his costume.

Want to remind you to take a moment and add you name to our 'follower' gadget on the blog's right hand corner so we can see who is visiting our little site!

Take Care everyone and have an awesome weekend.

Hey HO, let's GO!

I hope you like the new look of my blog. I was getting tired of the other template and wanted to change things a little to mirror the changes going on with the seasons. I've also added a new 'gadget' to my blog to track 'followers' which enables me to know who visits here on a regular basis. Take a few moments to sign yourself up. It's only a click motion away.

UPDATES

That Cat oh, that kind of cat...

I know it seems like all I do is update you on my developments but recently some funny things have been going on. First of all, I have become absolutely obsessed with Sadie, our cat. Before, it was always a casual thing but lately, she's the first 'person' I want to see when I get home and I'm prone to chasing her, petting and generally annoying her ALL THE TIME.

She certainly enjoys the attention but I've noticed that she positions herself in corners of the house to keep a clear boundary between us. She's just too cute and I'll even lay my head on her back in hopes of a cuddle. All you have to say is, " Kitty, kitty, kitty " ( I pronounce it, " KID-EH, KID-EH, KID-EH " spoken really fast ) and I'll come running to find her.

JONAH & The Wail...

So while my parents wait patiently for me to start talking, I've gotten back into the habit of wailing. I suppose it's my version of the good ole tantrum but I have a real aptitude for high pitched screaming. Of course, this annoys the parents 'cause as much as they teach me sign language, I seem to get my point across quicker with a good old scream. These things too shall pass, non?

Take a stroll...

Right so the other day mom bought me a stroller for my baby Jasper. I literally pushed this thing around the house and into Sadie and furniture for a good hour. I wouldn't go up for a diaper change without it and Mom and Dad had to hide the darn thing to get me to chill out. I suppose I'm just in a rush to do grown up stuff although I've been told to enjoy my youth while I have it.

Well that is all folks!

Have a great weekend and we'll see you next week.

Last Days of Fall

Greetings,

As the last days of Fall slip away, I've been doing my best to keep busy and active. As the leaves turn brilliant colors, I too am changing and growing up. My how time flies.

What's New

Everyone knows by now that I have an awesome appetite but did you know that I can feed myself? And who needs a high chair, that's baby stuff!

Okay, I admit it, I love the telly. I try to watch it in moderation but honestly, nothing suits me better then curling up with a big blanket and watching Cornation Street before bedtime.

Me and the parentals are always on the look out for new parks for me to play in. We recently found one near the hospital I was born in. Mom decided to take me for a spin in a big old car and she doesn't even have a licence.

Here is a very cool action picture of me going down a big slide. I'm still amazed at how Mom managed to capture me in perfect motion.

I recently got a big plastic kitchen for my back deck. It has a microwave, cooker and fridge. Here I am, contemplating the shape of a donut. Once it starts to get cold, we'll move it all down to the basement. Good times!

Hope you too are enjoying these last days of Fall!

Like a chicken...

Hello dear friends and family,

It's now been over a month since I last posted on the blog. As I mentioned the family and I have been quite busy. So much interesting stuff has been happening that I'm not sure where to begin.

Perhaps I'll start by saying, I LOVE YOU to my Savta and Sabba who recently stayed with us for three weeks. We all had a truly lovely and action packed visit. I really enjoyed getting to know them better and they got to see me at my 'toddling' best. I also truly valued the time we spent together eating, playing, sitting on the couch and driving around the city. We went to High Park, Toronto Island, Riverdale Farm, Distillery District, the Beaches and on a day trip to Guelph. We played in the park, went for long walks and ate in all the fancy restaurants and cafe's along the Danforth.

*P.S. I'm happy to report that they are back safe and sound in the UK. WE MISS YOU and can't wait to see you next year! ;.)

In other news, Mom and Dad recently attended Ryan and Racheal's wedding ( don't my parents clean up nice?) From what I hear it was a lovely affair with an original and heartfelt ceremony followed by a laid back yet classy reception with yummy food and drink. I really wish I could have been there to celebrate.

All of us at JD blog, wish the newly weds peace, love and happiness with a little granola thrown in for good luck!

Well that is it for now folks.
See you soon.

Jonah Updates

Hello friends and family,

As promised Mom and Dad sat down and wrote up a list of all my recent developments to chart my progress as I approach my 19th month on the planet. So to keep in the spirit of the blog, they have given me the task of writing the post for you.

Daycare
I've been going to a home daycare run by a woman named Kiki for several months now. What started off as a difficult process has become a welcomed outlet for my ever growing social skills. These days when Dad pulls up on his bike to drop me off, not only am I in a rush to get my helmet off but I also run straight for Kiki's door. Sometimes, I even forget to say goodbye and give Dad a hug.

Food and Eating
Most of you know that I have an incredible appetite, typical of both my parents. Lately, if given the chance, I'll feed myself with a spoon (using my left hand no less) while in the highchair. I'm also really starting to enjoy finger foods and eating whole apples. I now take bigger pieces of meat and veggies along with my daily serving of Quiona! I have also developed this weird fascination with disposable coffee cups. We try to find me the eco-conscious ones but I just can't help myself to them.

Chores and helping out
This may sound weird but I love cleaning up and making a mess. If asked, I'll fetch shoes, throw banana peels in the compost, close doors and cupboards, sweep the floor and most importantly, feed Sadie cat her kibble.

I also enjoy reading both as listener and storyteller. I'll happily read to you my own unique 'gibberish' versions of some of my favorite books.

This may not count as a chore but I really enjoy brushing my teeth. When the time comes I run into the bathroom, pull up my stool and with some help, grab the brush and start cleaning. This is a huge improvement considering how difficult it was in the beginning. I may not have the technique down yet but the fact that I eagerly participate is the main thing.

Movement and Modes of Transport
I'm mad about stairs and insist that I have my hand on the railing when going up and down our steep staircase. At the park, I also prefer the age 5-12 play area and frequently go up the stairs or climb the walls to the bigger slides. I also love to walk and naturally prefer to go where I am not supposed to go. But with some guidance, I'm really good at staying on the pavement or sidewalk. I also have a cool wagon and now that it is fixed, prefer it much more to the stroller.

You all know by now that I'm walking but you can now add running to the list along with climbing all over EVERYTHING. It ends up that I crash and fall into stuff more often but that is half the fun.

So that is all for my updates. I probably won't be able to post for a few weeks as
September is a very busy month for our family. Not only are Mom and Dad going on a trip to Montreal and I'll be staying with Nana, there is Ryan and Rachael's wedding coming up as well.

We are also very excited to welcome my Savta and Sabba (Ruth and Harry) who are coming all the way from England to see us over the next few weeks. We can't wait to see them.

So I'll make sure that my staff post updates and more photo's towards the end of the month to chronicle all the fun. Take Care everyone, I'm going to go have a nap now.

Nana in SHINE Magazine

Friends of JD blog,

As you know, we always like to post things about the family and when a special event happens, we like to report on it immediately. Nana recently was asked by DOVE to be part of one of their magazine campaigns. She entered it on a lark ( no pun intended) and was chosen to participate.

Some of you may actually have a copy show up in your mailbox if you happen to subscribe to one of the many magazines associated with SHINE.

Below are the details and links to the photo etc.

"Shine Magazine will be available with select subscription copies of
September and October issues of Transcontinental magazines, along with 50,000
copies available on newsstands with Elle Canada magazine. Alternatively, the
magazine can be viewed in its entirety at dovehair.ca as of August 27, 2008.

I found this: click this link and you should be able to browse the
online version of the catalog. You might have to cut and paste it into your browser to view it.

September is here

Hello friends,

Well it is a bit hard to believe but September is here and Summer is gone for another year. But you wouldn't know it, since the weather has been so nice and the sun and temperatures have been blazing.

As you all know by now that our family has a soft spot for Toronto Island and we visit whenever we can. Here is a decent pic of the Toronto skyline from Wards Island.

On Labour day weekend we met up with Nana and braved the massive crowds to go to the beach. It was a gorgeous day and fun was had by all.

I hope that you all had a wonderful long weekend and are not too upset that September is here, school is back in session and the 9-5 grind awaits.

Your probably wondering why I haven't mentioned much about my recent advancements considering I'm 18 months old. To be honest, I'm going through so many changes that Mom and Dad are having a meeting to write the next blog post to make sure that nothing gets left out. SO come back on the weekend where they will be detailing all my latest developments.

A sneak peek: I am now saying YES and NO when asked various questions. I talk up a storm too but it's still mostly gibberish. I'm also learning sign language and have 'MORE', 'BABY' and 'WATER/DRINK' down pat. Pretty impressive huh?

So check back here on the weekend. Maybe Dad will get a pic of me doing chores.

Me and my Friends

With Summer slowly drawing to a close, I've been taking full advantage of the nice, sunny weather. Over the last few weekends the family and I have had the distinct pleasure of hanging out with our friends and parents for play dates in local parks.

Here is a nice shot of Nigel and I. Our Dads have been friends since highschool. Nigel is almost one and pretty soon he'll be walking and talking just like me.

This is Violet, one of my friends from pre-natal class.

Here I am with Sam in my fancy new wagon down at Monarch Park. Sam and I first met at a Toronto Public Health Mom & Tots group last Winter.

This is me with some strange man with facial hair. Anyone know who this is?

Well I hope my friends don't mind me posting these pics. Please let the staff know at jd blog if you object :)

We're going to try and have a quiet weekend for a change and do stuff around the house. Today we are going to find Daddy a suit for Uncle Ryan and Auntie Racheal's wedding. Hopefully if the weather stays dry, we'll go for a big bike ride tomorrow. We also have plenty of chores and cleaning to do.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Losell Reunion pt 2

For some reason, Jonah wouldn't stay away from the country road.
We did a fair bit of walking as there wasn't much traffic.
Jonah definitely loves to walk.

Uncle Andre took extensive photo's of the day and we look forward to posting those pics soon.

Nana will also be a guest blogger in the coming weeks with a special post for us about her adventures in the High Arctic.
